Gabriel Gudmundsson was delighted to get back onto the pitch as Leeds United battled to a 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex.
The Sweden international made his first appearance of the season after missing the opening weeks with a hamstring injury suffered during pre-season. He returned to the bench against Brentford last weekend but wasn’t called upon.
Gabriel Gudmundsson went straight into the starting XI against Brighton and completed the game, helping Leeds United secure a valuable point after Jayden Bogle had given the Whites the lead.
“I have been waiting for this,” Gudmundsson told the media after the final whistle.
“Of course, it has been a tough period but again just a credit to the physio team that helped me here today very prepared.”
The defender was pleased with the result, particularly given the difficulty of the venue.
“So, of course, overall very happy with the point here. I think Brighton, especially, is a very, very difficult place to come to.”
Gabriel Gudmundsson also felt Leeds United showed plenty of character after Brighton’s equaliser.
“I think we had really good two or three chances. We showed really good resilience today and fought very well in the second half.”

The 90-minute outing was a major step forward following his injury. Gabriel Gudmundsson admitted he was simply relieved his body had handled the full game.
“Straight into the 90 minutes, of course, I am just so happy that my body feels okay. Probably will feel it tomorrow – that is another story!”
The Leeds United defender was quick to credit the medical staff for helping him return.
“I got really good help from the medical team and the physios. Hopefully it is just going to be better and better now.”
