Dominic Calvert-Lewin got off the mark for Leeds United in the Premier League as his late goal rescued a point against Brentford at Elland Road.
Leeds United were trailing with a little over 10 minutes remaining when Lukas Nmecha’s cross found Calvert-Lewin in the six-yard box. The striker bundled the ball home to level the score and send the home crowd into celebration.
The 29-year-old admitted Leeds had struggled during the opening half before producing a much better display after the break.
Calvert-Lewin pleased with Leeds United response
“It was a very, very tough game. We knew it was going to be a very tough test,” Calvert-Lewin told the media after the match.
“They are very pragmatic, they play second balls, high energy, and we knew we would have to match that and more. I think first half we struggled.”
The forward explained that a system adjustment at half-time helped Leeds gain greater control of the contest.
“We changed the system and it just seemed to get us a better foothold in the game and we could dictate the play more. I think a draw is probably a fair result in the end.”
Calvert-Lewin was also delighted to open his account, highlighting the importance of being in the right position.
“In the six-yard box, that is my territory. So I have to be there for when the ball arrives and I was today, so happy to be off the mark and long may continue.”
The Leeds striker is now focused on building from the start made last season.
“We just have to focus on what we can control and keep bringing our quality through. We have got the experience of last season that we have to use.”
