The Elland Road parking rules have changed for 2026/27, and Leeds United supporters travelling to Sunday’s Premier League opener against Brentford need to sort theirs out well before they set off. Turning up on the day and paying at the barrier is no longer an option.
Elland Road parking must now be booked in advance
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, parking at the council car parks around the ground must be booked in advance of matchday on a game-by-game basis from the start of this season. There is no longer any option to pay on the day at a council car park, and anyone arriving without a pre-booked space will be turned away.
Spaces are prioritised for current Season Ticket Holders and Members holding a valid match ticket, and they are issued on a first-come-first-served basis with a limit of one space per supporter. A space costs £13.00 for either a car or a motorcycle, a figure that includes a £1.00 booking fee, and spaces are sold through the club’s online ticketing platform rather than at the ground.
The practical upshot is that matchday travel now needs the same forward planning as buying the ticket itself. With a big crowd expected for the first home league game since May, the council spaces are likely to go quickly.
Digital passes only — screenshots will not get you in
The other change is how the pass works once you have it. Car parking passes are issued digitally and must be downloaded to Google Pay on Android or Apple Wallet on iPhone in advance of matchday, before you arrive at the ground. Screenshots and email confirmations will not be accepted.
That makes a charged phone part of the kit list. The advice reported by the YEP is to save the pass to your wallet before leaving home rather than trying to sort it out in a queue on Elland Road with one bar of signal and eight per cent battery.
Shuttle bus moves from Sovereign Street to Meadow Lane
Supporters using the city-centre shuttle also need to note a change. For the Brentford fixture, the usual service from Sovereign Street is moving to Meadow Lane. Both pick-up points sit in the same part of the city centre, a short walk apart, but anyone heading straight to the old stop out of habit will find nothing there.
Departure times and return arrangements are published by the club, so it is worth checking the official Leeds United website before travelling rather than relying on last season’s routine. Nothing in the YEP report suggests the change extends beyond this fixture.
A bigger day than the fixture list suggested
There is a reason the ground will be busy. Leeds arrive at their home opener with a perfect record, having won 1-0 away at Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on 22 August and then 2-0 at the City Ground in the EFL Cup three nights later, keeping a clean sheet in both. Brentford have also won their opening two matches in league and cup, which makes Sunday a meeting of two of the division’s brighter starters rather than the soft home introduction it might once have looked.
Elland Road has not staged competitive football since May, and a first home win of the campaign would set an early tone for a squad that spent last season fighting for its top-flight place.
