Nico Elvedi enjoyed a memorable first night under the lights at Elland Road as Leeds United produced a dominant 4-1 victory over Newcastle United.
The Swiss defender played the full 90 minutes as Leeds United maintained their unbeaten Premier League start. The result moved Daniel Farke’s side up to third place after four matches, giving Nico Elvedi plenty to celebrate on his first league appearance in front of the home supporters.
“It was great. I didn’t expect this great atmosphere. Everyone told me it would be amazing and it was! So, yeah, I am looking forward to the next game here,” Elvedi said after the game.

The centre-back was equally impressed with what he saw from his teammates on the pitch. Leeds controlled the contest from the opening stages and deservedly secured all three points.
“I think it was a very good team performance today. We deserved this win. I think every player can be proud of the performance.”
Elvedi also highlighted the intensity of Leeds’ approach, particularly their pressing game against Newcastle.
“I think we did a very good game from the start to the end and, yeah, third place, I think a very good start. Our plan was to press one against one. I think we did this very well.”
After a positive pre-season and four unbeaten league matches, Elvedi believes Leeds have plenty to look forward to.
“I think we have had a good pre-season as well and a good start in the league. We have to keep going. We are looking forward to the next game. We have a very good team. I think we can reach a lot this season.”
