Newcastle team news vs Leeds United is starting to look like a problem for the visitors, with Matthias Jaissle due at Elland Road on Monday night missing at least four senior players and sweating on a fifth.
Defender Dan Burn is out with an ankle ligament injury and goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen is sidelined by an ankle problem of his own, while midfielder Joelinton (thigh) and striker William Osula (foot) both remain unavailable, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.
Amar Dedic doubt shapes Newcastle team news vs Leeds United
The biggest call is at right-back. Amar Dedic, 24, a £30million summer signing from Benfica, was forced off with a suspected hamstring injury during Wednesday’s Carabao Cup win at Millwall. He has been one of Newcastle’s sharpest attacking outlets this season, already registering three assists from full-back.
Jaissle offered only cautious encouragement, telling Newcastle World that the issue “doesn’t look too serious” while insisting he treats fitness matters “really confidentially”. Should Dedic sit it out, Tino Livramento is in line for his first start of the campaign, with the versatile Lewis Miley another option.
A £51m man waiting in the wings
Osula’s absence could finally open the door for Matias Fernandez-Pardo, the £51million deadline-day arrival yet to start for his new club. Jaissle has suggested a late call will be taken on the forward.
It all adds up to a tempting night for the Whites, who return to Premier League action after that chastening 6-3 cup defeat at Chelsea. Both clubs have taken five points from nine so far, and Daniel Farke has already told his squad to expect a “very dangerous” counter-attacking side — read his full Newcastle warning here.
Elland Road under the lights, a rebuilt Newcastle, a depleted back line: Leeds could hardly ask for more.
